Constable Jayann Raymond ‘cops’ LASCO/JCF Police of the Year Award

The annual LASCO / Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Police of the Year Award was held on Friday, October 20, and this year, the LASCO Chairman’s Award was presented to Area 5’s Constable Jayann Raymond. Six finalists were announced for the Chairman’s Award, the highest honour of the LASCO/JCF Saluting Our Heroes Awards.

Constable Raymond, who described herself as ‘a woman of action’, distinguished herself through her exemplary technical skills, dedication to service and her deep passion for community engagement. Speaking passionately about her role in the community, she said, “It is important for me to have a great appreciation of my responsibilities. My position at Area 5 headquarters has given me a platform to not only serve my immediate community but all 38 communities across Area 5. This is indeed a pleasure and an honour.”

She is the second woman constable from Area 5 to cop the top award and with it received a trophy, a cash prize of $150,000 and LASCO tokens.

Constable Nickroy Neish (Area 3) placed second, Corporal Aljuray McKenzie (Area 4) and Sergeant Florezel Thompson (Non-Geographic Division) tied for third place, a first in the history of the awards. Woman Sergeant Allison Holness (Area 1) placed fourth and Corporal Lenworth Mott placed fifth.

“Being amongst the officers in the top six for me, made me feel like a winner. To my fellow JCF colleagues our work has not gone unnoticed and to the citizens of Jamaica to trust us and partner with us to make our country safer. Partnerships have proven essential, like that of the LASCO Chin Foundation and the JCF to produce this award. I believe together we achieve more,” urged the Chairman’s top awardee.

The prestigious award recognises outstanding achievement in law enforcement and honours these heroes who work tirelessly every day to protect and serve. The ceremony which was held at the AC Hotel in Kingston under the theme: “Observing excellence in People, Quality and Technology”, saw a total of 156 police officers recognised in a celebration of outstanding service, good work ethic, and making a difference in the community.

Through initiatives like the annual LASCO/JCF Police Officer of the Year Awards, the LASCO Chin Foundation, which has collaborated with the JCF for more than two decades, has been committed to making a significant impact on boosting the morale of constabulary members and the communities they serve.

The Chairman’s Awardee Constable Raymond has announced that before the end of 2023, she will embark on a new project – the ‘Expression of Self’ Programme, geared towards youths and teaching them about conflict resolution,  which is expected to launch in the St Andrew North Division.
