At the LASCO Chin Foundation (LCF), our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives reflect our unwavering commitment to national development, community empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Through a range of impactful programmes, we support and celebrate excellence in healthcare, law enforcement, education, and environmental stewardship.
The LASCO Chin Foundation (LCF) demonstrates a strong commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through various impactful programmes. The Nurse and Nursing Student of the Year (NOY/NSOY), Police of the Year (PoY), Principal and Teacher of the Year (PTOY) initiatives and the Releaf Environmental Awareness Programme (REAP) are key elements of our CSR efforts.
OBJECTIVE: To address the needs of vulnerable groups, including at-risk youth, while recognizing and celebrating exceptional contributions in law enforcement, healthcare, education, and environment protection.
Empowering Heroes in Healthcare
Nurse and Nursing Student of the Year Programme
In partnership with the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) since 1999, this programme honours the dedication and excellence of nurses and nursing students across the island.
Key Highlights:
- Nurses Easter Bunny Treat: Bringing joy to children with thoughtful gift packages.
- Orange Day Initiative: A powerful call to action against gender-based violence, uniting nurses, law enforcement, and advocates.
- International Nurses Day: Celebrating nurses with national recognition and appreciation tokens.
- Nurses Week: Featuring workshops, a Thanksgiving service, Founders Day celebration, and the prestigious Nurse/Nursing Student of the Year Awards.
Supporting Law Enforcement Excellence
Police of the Year Programme
In collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force for over 23 years, this programme honours police officers who exemplify integrity, service, and community commitment.
Programme Highlights:
- Annual Police Week events that foster camaraderie and celebrate service.
- The Police of the Year Awards Ceremony, recognizing the top officer and supporting finalists’ special community projects.
- Notably, in 2024, the Commissioner of Police personally promoted all six top finalists, marking a new milestone for the initiative.
Advancing Education and Leadership
Teacher and Principal of the Year Programme
The partnership between the LASCO Chin Foundation and the Jamaica Teaching Council (JTC) began in 2006 with the introduction of the Principal of the Year award, which was created to complement the Teacher of the Year programme that started in 1997. This collaboration expanded further in 2019 with the addition of the TVET Teacher of the Year category. Together with the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth & Information and the JTC, the initiative continues to recognize and celebrate educational leaders who inspire excellence across Jamaica.
Key Activities:
- Participation in national judging panels.
- Coordination of the annual awards ceremony.
- Hosting workshops and celebrations for World Teachers’ Day.
- Facilitating both personal and professional development.
Cultivating Environmental Awareness
Releaf Environmental Awareness Programme (REAP)
REAP promotes sustainability and environmental consciousness among primary school children across Jamaica.
Focus Areas:
- Tree planting
- Recycling and energy conservation
- School gardening
- Anti-littering campaigns
- Plastic bottle collection
Programme Impact:
- Over JMD 30 million awarded to schools
- 63,200 trees planted
- 1.97 million plastic bottles collected
- 85 tons of PET and EPS waste removed
- 350+ school environmental clubs initiated or enhanced
Strengthening Schools in Vulnerable Communities
Adopt a School Programme
Focused on creating nurturing learning environments, this programme supports schools through infrastructure upgrades, welfare support, and nutritional initiatives.
Key Achievements:
- Construction of classrooms, sick bays, and sanitation facilities
- Implementation of meal programmes for students and staff
- Support for school events such as Sports Day and Christmas Treats
Additional CSR Initiatives
Read Across Jamaica Day
Supporting the Ministry of Education’s national literacy initiative, we foster a love of reading by visiting schools, donating books, and encouraging staff participation.
Labour Day Activities
Every year, the Foundation teams up with LASCO Distributors, Manufacturing, and Financial Services to provide vital services to communities across Jamaica, reinforcing our pledge to uplift lives.
