Sir George Alleyne

Sir GEORGE ALLEYNE: is a preeminent Caribbean academic who has distinguished himself in the field of medicine. A graduate of the University College of the West Indies (UCWI) and the University of London, Sir Alleyne returned to the University of the West Indies (nee UCWI)  in 1962 to pursue a career in academic medicine and was appointed Professor of Medicine in 1972.

 Sir Alleyne has served as a member of several medical science bodies and has had over 150 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his work, including prestigious decorations and national honours from many countries of the Americas. In 1990, he was made Knight Bachelor by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his services to medicine, and in 2001  he was awarded the Order of the Caribbean Community- the highest honour that can be conferred on a Caribbean national.
